The research project
This study addresses the lack of UK research on policing families and will provide initial insights into the impacts of policing life on the wider family.
The project is funded by the College of Policing's National Police Wellbeing Service and the outcomes of this work will help to support the Police Covenant to ensure that officers, staff, volunteers and their families are not disadvantaged as a result of their service in the police and mitigate the impact that this may have on their day-to-day life.
The research team are engaging directly with families of both serving and retired officers to fully understand their experiences and understand their needs.
Can you help?
Are you a member of a family that includes a police officer or police staff member? This maybe a husband, wife, partner, child, brother, sister, father, mother, carer or another close relative. You are being invited to take part this survey looking at the needs of the families of police officers and police staff.
By taking part in this survey, families of police officers and staff have the opportunity to be heard by the wider police service and to contribute to future initiatives aimed at supporting police families. There is also an opportunity to be put into a £50 prize draw for completing taking part.
Focus groups
Another part of this research will be carried out by speaking directly to family members through online focus groups.
If you would be willing to join a group, made up of police family members, and contribute to the understanding of what support police families need, please contact the Principle Investigator Dr Sarah-Jane Lennie for further details
By taking part you can have your say on how you would like the police service to recognise police families and as a bonus you will receive a £20 voucher to compensate your time.
