As part of this year’s Oscar Kilo Conference, you will have the opportunity to take part in our Recovery Pathways workshops, delivered by three trusted partners who support the Reset U programme.
These interactive sessions are designed to give you first-hand experience of different approaches to wellbeing, recovery and resilience. Whether you are curious about the power of breathwork, interested in the restorative benefits of nature, or keen to learn more about wellbeing retreats and recovery pathways, there is something for everyone.
You can choose from three workshops:
- Breath Connection – exploring how simple breathing techniques can help manage pressure, regulate stress and improve recovery.
- Mind Over Mountains – introducing the role of walking, nature and mindfulness in helping people reset and regain perspective following stress or trauma.
- Blue Light Wellbeing – exploring wellbeing retreats, nature-based recovery and the benefits of taking time out to focus on wellbeing.
Each workshop lasts approximately 30 minutes. When you register for the conference, you will be asked to select two sessions that you would like to attend.
On arrival, you will receive colour-coded stickers showing your selected workshops. Members of the NPWS team will be on hand throughout the afternoon to guide you between session locations and ensure you arrive at the right workshop at the right time.
We encourage you to read the workshop descriptions below and choose the two sessions that most interest you. This is your opportunity to step away from the conference environment, try something different and experience practical approaches to wellbeing and recovery that could support both you and the people you work with.
Breath Connection
Change your breath. Change your state.
Breathing is something we do automatically, yet it can be one of the most powerful tools we have for managing pressure, improving focus and supporting recovery.
In this practical and interactive session, you'll explore how your breathing patterns influence both your physical and psychological wellbeing. Through a series of simple, guided exercises, you'll learn techniques that can be used during challenging working days, periods of stress and moments when you need to quickly regain focus and composure.
The session will explain the science behind effective breathing techniques and demonstrate how they can help regulate stress responses, improve concentration, support emotional regulation and promote better recovery. Delegates will leave with practical skills they can easily incorporate into everyday life, both at work and at home.
Mind Over Mountains
Reset and Recover: Using nature to regain perspective after pressure and trauma
Policing and emergency service work can expose people to significant pressure, stress and trauma. This session explores how spending time in nature can play an important role in helping people process difficult experiences, regain perspective and support their ongoing wellbeing.
Led by Mind Over Mountains, this workshop combines a gentle outdoor walk with guided mindfulness activities and discussion. Participants will learn about the evidence behind nature-based wellbeing approaches and how taking time away from the demands of daily life can create space for reflection, recovery and resilience.
The session also provides an introduction to the support and programmes offered by Mind Over Mountains, highlighting how outdoor experiences, professional support and peer connection can help people navigate challenging times and improve overall wellbeing.
Please note: This is an outdoor session taking place within the grounds of Crewe Hall, it will involve some walking but nothing strenuous. If you would like to take part, please bring a coat and suitable footwear.
Blue Light Wellbeing
Nature-Based Wellbeing and Recovery
Blue Light Wellbeing has supported thousands of emergency service personnel through wellbeing retreats, walks and outdoor experiences designed to promote recovery, connection and personal resilience.
This session provides an opportunity to learn more about the benefits of nature-based wellbeing activities and the positive impact they can have on mental health, stress management and overall wellbeing. The team will explore some of the common myths and misconceptions around wellbeing retreats and outdoor recovery activities, while sharing real-life examples of how these approaches have helped individuals across the emergency services.
Delegates will take part in a reflective exercise and hear more about the wide range of support, retreats and opportunities available through Blue Light Wellbeing. Whether you're curious about attending a retreat yourself or interested in introducing colleagues to new wellbeing opportunities, this session offers practical insight into how time spent in nature can support recovery and resilience.
Please note: This session includes time outdoors within the grounds of Crewe Hall. If you would like to participate, please bring a coat and suitable footwear.
