If you work in policing and you drive either as part of your job or to commute we love to hear from you, we are especially keen to hear from shift workers.
The Road Safety Trust has awarded funding to Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and we are working alongside them to carry out the three-year SleepiEST project. The project will result in a publicly available online fatigue management tool.
Stage one: The survey
Stage one of the SleepiEST project is to conduct a large, nationwide survey of serving officers and police employees to collect information on sleep, fatigue, shift patterns and driving behaviour.
Although the research will focus on police officers and other police employees, the findings will be applicable to a wide range of shift workers, and those who drive to and from work outside normal working hours.
If you choose to take part, you will answer a series of questions about your experiences and behaviours associated with your mental and physical health, your experiences of feeling sleepy and fatigued, your work as a shift worker, and your behaviours whilst driving.
We understand how important this topic is and are therefore interested in hearing from a range of employees who work in any capacity for the Police service. This survey will be completely anonymous, and all data will be handled by NTU, meaning that your colleagues and supervisors will not know any of your individual responses. Please make sure you submit your responses before the 1st of December. This survey can take up to around an hour to complete.
When you submit the survey, you will be entered into a prize draw to win one of multiple shopping vouchers worth £100. Your responses will help us to create interventions to limit sleep-related road collisions in police shift-workers. Contact details for all researchers can be found on the first page of the survey.
